Our intern, Emily, shared what had been on her heart this morning at our weekly staff meeting.
Meekness & Rest
Meek
adj.
1. patient,
long-suffering, or submissive in disposition or nature; humble
2.
showing
patience and humility; gentle.
Matthew 11:28
“Come to Me, all of
you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. All of you, take up My yoke and learn from
Me, because I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for yourselves. For My yoke is easy and My burden light.”
Matthew 5:3 “Blessed
are the poor in spirit because the kingdom of heaven is theirs.”
Matthew 5:5 “Blessed
are the gentle, because they will inherit the earth.”
We have to humble ourselves to our Lord and Savior. We have to wait; listen; be still. In our culture that can be so very hard to do
with the hustle bustle of life—filling our time with so many endless things and
responsibilities that we set before ourselves.
How often do we just sit, think, and have a conversation with
Jesus. Where is the rest and quiet in
our lives?
Learning how to take time each day to embrace a meek spirit
is something that most of us don’t necessarily think about or make the time
for. It’s a challenge for some of us to
not have a plan, to have free time and feel the need to immediately pack that
free time in with another to do list.
The Lord is simply saying, “My child, rest your spirit. Pour your heart
to out to me, I’m here waiting for you.” But do we really take the time to
believe that and live that out; knowing that God whispers those things to us
amidst our hectic and busy lives—“Just rest. Quiet your spirit.”
Knowing we have a Savior we serve that asks us to
rest in Him alone, that He is the one guiding us and asking us to be obedient
to His guidance is something to rejoice in.
Why do we stress ourselves out with filling our lives up with “stuff.”
That “stuff” will not reap benefits, but building a relationship with Jesus is
something that will reap eternal benefits!
Take heart, He has come to bring us peace, rest, and to reveal the meek
spirit He has planted in each of us—a spirit of gentleness, humbleness,
patience, and willingness to allow Him to be in control. It’s out of our hands—rest
in that.
We have to learn that being meek is not a burden, but it is
simply a time of sweet rest with our Lord and Savior; a time to give it all to
Him and realize that He is there to complete His work in and through us. We have to submit to Him as His children, and
Him as our Father, and discover what that relationship truly looks like.
As you rest, listen. Embrace the peace that He brings to a meek and humble child of His.
